A farmer's role in renewable energy - Lindsay’s story

Shot by RE-Alliance as part of a wider video series celebrating positive stories from across Australia, this film captures the experience of Lindsay, a sheep and cattle farmer on Bald Hills Wind Farm, a Foresight Australian Renewables Income Fund asset.

After more than a decade living and working in the region, and seeing the Bald Hills Wind Farm take shape from the very beginning, Lindsay offers a firsthand perspective on what it’s really like to farm alongside renewable infrastructure.

From potential improvements in farm productivity and biodiversity, to changes in borrowing capacity and land value, the presence of the wind farm has brought a range of possible benefits. For Lindsay, it’s been a chance to see how renewable infrastructure can work alongside traditional farming.

"Probably the most unexpected part of it is how easy it has integrated into my farm. We've more paddocks, more access - so it's actually helped improve productivity. The animals take no notice of it, they calf and lamb in amongst the turbines. It's got the finance to maybe enhance the biodiversity, it enhances the asset value, the borrowing capacity...we've got new stock yards..we wouldn't have been able to afford that without the windfarm..I just can't see a downside." - Lindsay, Local Sheep and Cattle Farmer

RE-Alliance works closely with local residents, industry, and government to ensure the energy transition delivers real, lasting benefits for the people who live where these projects are built. Community engagement is an important element of Bald Hills, with a dedicated Community Fund providing ongoing financial support to local sporting groups, charities, community groups, education, culture, and other not-for-profit organisations. It provides a total of $25,000 per year for each year that the wind farm is in operation to the Community Fund.

Investing in Australia's energy transition

Commissioned in 2015, Bald Hills consists of 52 wind turbines with an installed capacity of 106.6 MW, generating enough clean power to supply thousands of homes across the state.

Backed by Foresight’s ARIF (Australian Renewables Income Fund), it forms part of a wider portfolio of renewable energy assets, focused on building a future where capital flows toward climate solutions rather than emissions. Feeding directly into the national grid via a 27km transmission line, it's an essential component in Victoria's renewable energy journey. The turbines, each at 2.05 MW, catch the region’s consistent coastal gusts, converting them into reliable, clean energy.

About ARIF

“ARIF offers investors access to a high-quality portfolio of operating renewable energy assets and a platform for future growth in the sector. It’s a portfolio that has been built over an extended period and is designed to provide investors with diversified exposure across the renewables landscape.” - Daniel Beaver, Executive Director, Foresight

Spanning wind, solar, hydro, and battery storage, ARIF focuses on investing in long-term, operational renewable assets that deliver value for investors. Australia is leading the charge in the global energy transition, backed by strong government support and clear Net Zero targets that will require over A$300 billion in investment.

But beyond the infrastructure and investment, it’s stories like Lindsay’s that show the true impact of renewables. Highlighting how clean energy can deliver real, lasting benefits on the ground.
