Foresight-backed Eden Mobility on the move with latest acquisition

  • Leading UK provider of mobility scooters and associated products strengthens nationwide presence with acquisition of Derbyshire Mobility
  • The acquisition takes Eden to 47 stores, reflecting nearly 50% growth in under two years since Foresight’s investment

Eden Mobility (“Eden”, “The Company”), the UK’s leading provider of mobility scooters and associated products, has strengthened its nationwide presence with the acquisition of Derbyshire Mobility, including its three stores based in Chesterfield, Matlock and Ripley.

The acquisition marks another significant milestone in Eden Mobility’s ongoing growth journey, supported by leading smaller companies’ investor Foresight since 2024. Prior to Foresight’s initial investment, the Scunthorpe-based business operated 32 stores and employed 108 people; it has since expanded to 47 stores nationwide and now employs more than 150 people across the UK.

Founded in 1998 by long-term business partners David Hughes and Karl Howe, Eden Mobility began with a single showroom in Bentley, Donacaster. Over more than two decades, the business has established itself as a trusted national retailer, recognised for its high standards of customer service and comprehensive aftercare support.

Following the investment from Foresight, Eden has accelerated its expansion strategy. In addition to supporting growth, Foresight has worked closely with the business to strengthen its leadership structure, promoting existing management into board-level roles, and appointing Marek Laskowski as CEO, Andy Torrance as Chair and Julie Middleton as Finance Director. Marek has a wealth of retail experience, having overseen 100 stores and 1,000 employees for Ann Summers and Mamas and Papas. Andy started his career on the shop floor, rising to serve as Chief Operating Officer at Dunelm and Holland & Barrett prior to his current role.

Eden’s leadership team will be further strengthened following this acquisition as Rob Cartledge, the former director of Derbyshire Mobility has taken on the role of Strategic Projects Manager at Eden Mobility, alongside the wider Derbyshire Mobility team. In his new role, Rob will focus on developing Eden’s offering beyond its existing retail operations.

Commenting on the acquisition, Eden Mobility CEO Marek Laskowski said: “I have been privileged to witness first-hand the remarkable journey Eden has been in recent years, highlighted by the acquisition of respected regional specialists such as Derbyshire Mobility. This success is driven in entirely by the dedication of our people, who have built a business centred not only on delivering affordable mobility solutions, but also on creating welcoming social spaces for an expanding community of older customers.

“Looking ahead, we plan to continue building on this momentum through new store openings, further development of our existing network, selective acquisitions, and investment in our digital offering as the market continues to evolve.”

Rob Cartledge, Strategic Projects Manager at Eden Mobility, commented: “I’m incredibly proud of what we have built over the years, from a local mobility retailer started by my dad in 1998 to a multi-site business serving communities across Derbyshire with a brilliant, dedicated team.

“Eden brings scale, expertise, and long-term ambition following their own acquisition in 2024 as we look to build the best mobility brand in the UK. I am confident the business, the team, and most importantly our customers are in excellent hands as we continue to grow as part of the Eden team.”

Richard Ralph, Senior Investment Manager at Foresight Group in Yorkshire, said: “Eden Mobility exemplifies how a business with strong local roots can scale successfully on a national level when supported by Foresight. Its expansion across the UK demonstrates the wider economic impact of local investment. We are delighted to continue supporting Eden through its next phase of growth and look forward to reaching over 60 stores in the next two years”

“From our Yorkshire offices and with over £200m of committed funds to deploy across the North of England, we’re very keen to work with more ambitious, growing companies in the region. We provide a local, flexible investment approach supported by 40 years’ experience.”
