Inspiring the next generation of clean energy leaders

Across our portfolio, we’re engaging with schools, colleges, and community groups to spark curiosity, build knowledge, and inspire future careers in clean energy.

Through our partnership with Earth Energy Education, students are visiting solar and wind sites and participating in hands-on workshops. In the 2024–25 academic year, nearly 1300 students visited 22 assets spread across our portfolios, gaining real-world insights into climate change, biodiversity, and renewable energy. We also delivered Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) career sessions within schools, where industry experts highlighted the diverse career paths available in the renewables sector.

Here are some key highlights from across our portfolio

FGEN Highlights

  • 140+ students engaged, including learners from three primary schools, one secondary school, and one college.

  • 5 site visits hosted at the Pylle, Higher Tregarne, Amber Five Oaks, Shoals Hook, and Golden Hill solar farms.

  • 4 in-school STEM sessions delivered.

“I really enjoyed the day, and I learnt how important solar panels are.”

ITS Highlights

  • 610+ students engaged, including 14 primary schools, four secondary schools, and three community groups.

  • 22 site visits hosted at ten solar and wind assets, including Balls Wood, Ford Farm, Pentre, and Todmorden.

  • 22 in-school STEM sessions delivered

“The children came away having learned and experienced all about local and national energy issues.”

FSFL Highlights

  • 510+ students reached, including 13 primary schools and one college.

  • 18 site visits hosted at seven solar assets, including Bournemouth, Sawmills, Verwood, and Wally Corner.

  • 23 in-school STEM sessions delivered.

“It’s so much better to see it in real life, rather than learning from textbooks. This visit has made it real for the students.”

Supporting community projects

We are also helping young people and grassroots groups understand our commitment to nature recovery and responsible asset management through our investment in community projects. At Woodland Nurture Forest School in Nottinghamshire, we have provided supplies for building bird and bat boxes, as well as equipment for outdoor learning. In villages near our Peacehill Biogas plant, we’ve donated fruit trees and hosted planting workshops to foster community resilience and environmental stewardship.

These commitments help to strengthen our relationships with local communities as well as demonstrate Foresight’s support for nature-based educational projects.

Measuring our impact

Feedback from students and teachers to our school engagement programme has been overwhelmingly positive, with 100% of participants across FSFL, ITS, and FGEN requesting workshops and visits again next year. This shows the positive benefit that can be drawn from proactive engagement by responsible asset managers like Foresight.

At Foresight, where community engagement is central to our investment approach, we are proud to support initiatives that help shape the future of our industry
