Foresight ITS uses the benefits of BR to enhance the likelihood of effective IHT mitigation, offering a straightforward approach to estate planning
The forestry market is rapidly expanding, driven by the increasing emphasis on environmental sustainability, carbon sequestration, and the growing demand for timber and wood products.
As of 30 September 2024, Foresight ITS has a portfolio of over 80 forestry and natural capital assets covering 19,914 hectares across Scotland, Wales and England. Our forestry projects actively contribute to the fight against climate change and biodiversity loss whilst contributing to a healthier planet, supporting rural communities, and ensure the long-term viability of our forestry investments.
Our investment strategy combines afforestation assets (new forests planted for carbon sequestration, biodiversity protection/enhancement and future timber supply), forestry assets (sustainable timber production and other natural capital benefits), and mixed forestry assets (combination of afforestation and forestry).
Located in the Scottish Highlands, Fordie estate is a 2,155-hectare sustainable forestry project focused on afforestation, ecosystem restoration and timber production.
With 825,000 new trees planted and a natural tree regeneration zone, adding to the existing woodland, the project involves native broadleaf and conifer tree species enhancing biodiversity and carbon sequestration.
A run of river hydro scheme and holiday and residential lettings business provide additional local jobs and diversified income streams for the estate. Foresight ITS has a diverse forestry portfolio, including a mix of property types, which helps to balance risk and ensure multiple income streams.
We are actively pursuing double certification from both the Forest Stewardship Council (“FSC”) certification standards and the programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (“PEFC”), showcasing a commitment to responsible forestry.
Foresight’s current afforestation programme aims to plant 11.5 million trees by March 2026, creating 700 rural jobs during planting and establishment (equivalent to 35 full time roles). Our approach to community consultation exceeds regulatory requirements and has resulted in positive collaborations with community groups.
The Foresight Tilhill Forestry Skills Training Programme offers fully funded training for rural community members looking to start a career in forestry and has supported 18 candidates to date. Foresight monitors carbon sequestration, timber supply and biodiversity levels across the portfolio
